SalesChef gets your product facts ready for ChatGPT.

No one can pay or promise a way into ChatGPT’s product results. OpenAI documents three things you control: let OAI-SearchBot crawl your pages, publish complete and accurate product facts, and, if you are approved, send a product feed. OpenAI does not publish how it ranks products.

How ChatGPT finds products, as OpenAI documents it.

OpenAI documents two routes: its crawler reads your pages, and a product feed can give ChatGPT catalog data. We could not open OpenAI’s help article on shopping with ChatGPT search today, so this guide reports only the pages we did read.

Your pages, through OAI-SearchBot
OpenAI says “OAI-SearchBot is used to surface websites in search results in ChatGPT’s search features.” OpenAI recommends allowing it in robots.txt.
A product feed
OpenAI’s Get started guide says product feeds “give ChatGPT the catalog data it needs to index your products.” The specification says to submit one row per purchasable item or variant.
Approval for the feed
The same guide says the option is “currently available to approved partners” and points to an application form at chatgpt.com/merchants. It lists no eligibility rules beyond products being legal, safe and appropriate for a general audience.
Checkout is separate
The Agentic Commerce documentation says the Products specification has separate requirements for ads and checkout. The feed specification starts with discovery data.

What the evidence says about which products appear.

OpenAI publishes no ranking rules. Two AI-search vendors studied ChatGPT shopping results instead. Both are vendor studies: each company sells tools in this field, and neither is controlled testing. Treat them as patterns that may change.

Profound, vendor study, June 24, 2026
The study sampled about 1 million shopping offers over 30 days. It found 88.29% of offer instances were derived from web product pages. It also found offers from direct product feeds almost always appeared first, but feeds were about 20% of retrievals. The authors call the results observational.
Peec AI, vendor study, dated March 17, 2026
The study analyzed over 43,000 ChatGPT carousel products. It says 83% were strong matches to products in Google’s top 40 organic shopping results. The article does not define “strong match” and says the link is a tendency, tied to specific ChatGPT versions.
What to take from both
Product pages and feeds both matter, and Google Shopping data may overlap with what ChatGPT shows. Neither study shows that a change on your page will move you up.

A merchant checklist.

Each step below rests on a document we read. None promises a mention.

1. Allow OAI-SearchBot
Check your robots.txt. OpenAI says a change can take about 24 hours to take effect. GPTBot is separate: OpenAI says it crawls pages that may be used for training, and ChatGPT-User handles some user actions.
2. Make the product facts complete
OpenAI’s feed requires item_id, title, description, url, brand, seller_name, image_url, availability and price. Put the same facts on the page as text a crawler can read.
3. Keep price and availability current
The specification says to update current prices and availability in the feed when they change.
4. Answer buyer questions on the page
Profound lists visible reviews, FAQs and clearer product titles as levers. That is a vendor view. It is also what a shopper needs before a purchase.
5. Show real reviews
The specification says review aggregates should describe the product or variant, and should exclude seller and store reviews.
6. Apply for the feed where it fits
If you run a large catalog, use the form at chatgpt.com/merchants. OpenAI recommends sending the entire feed once a day by file upload.
7. Keep facts the same on every site
Google requires title, price and availability to match the landing page. Hold your own pages, marketplaces and feeds to the same rule.

What is not published.

The pages we read do not state how ChatGPT ranks products, so no one outside OpenAI can promise a placement. The feed specification says “Eligibility does not guarantee display.” The Get started guide lists no approval timeline. Vendor figures may change as ChatGPT changes. Your questions, answered.

How do I get my products recommended by ChatGPT?

Allow OAI-SearchBot in robots.txt, publish complete and accurate product facts on each page, and keep price and availability current. If OpenAI approves you, send a product feed as well. OpenAI does not publish how it ranks products, so no step guarantees a mention.

Does ChatGPT use a product feed?

OpenAI documents a product feed specification and says product feeds give ChatGPT the catalog data it needs to index products. Its Get started guide says the option is currently available to approved partners, with an application form at chatgpt.com/merchants.

Do I need to allow OAI-SearchBot?

OpenAI says OAI-SearchBot surfaces websites in ChatGPT search results and recommends allowing it. A site that opts out will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers but can still appear as a navigational link. OpenAI says a robots.txt change can take about 24 hours to take effect.

Do vendor studies show what ChatGPT picks?

They show patterns, not rules. Two AI-search vendors published studies of ChatGPT shopping results. Both are observational, both come from companies that sell AI-search tools, and ChatGPT can change at any time.

Can SalesChef get my products into ChatGPT?

No one can promise that. SalesChef Enrich fills the missing product facts, SalesChef Sell makes the pages that answer buyers, and the free AI search report shows who gets mentioned today and what your pages are missing.
