SalesChef checks whether AI can read and recommend your product page.

A product page is AI-ready when search and AI systems can crawl it, read the facts as text and match them to a clear product identity. Run the checklist below on one page today. No checklist can promise a mention; each platform decides what it shows.

Run these ten checks on one page.

Pick one product page. Open it, then work down the list. Each check is something you can see or fix today. Google says a page must be indexed and eligible for a snippet to appear in its generative AI features, so the first checks are about access.

1. The facts are text
Turn scripts off and reload. If the specs, price or answers disappear, a crawler may not see them. Put key facts in the page text, not only in images or scripts.
2. The specs are complete
List what a buyer compares: size, weight, materials, compatibility, what comes in the box. Fill every gap you can confirm.
3. The product has a clear identity
Show the brand, the model and the Global Trade Item Number. The number lets systems match your product to the same product elsewhere. Google Merchant Center requires brand for new products and strongly recommends the number where one exists.
4. The page answers buyer questions
Write the questions shoppers ask about fit, use and difference from similar products. Answer each in a plain sentence on the page.
5. Structured data matches the text
Google’s guidelines say not to mark up anything that readers of the page cannot see. Check that name, image, price and availability in the markup match what a shopper sees.
6. Reviews are real and visible
Google lists review and aggregateRating as recommended properties for merchant listings. Mark up only reviews shoppers can read on the page.
7. The page is current
Keep price and availability up to date. Google warns against changing page dates to look fresh when the page has not substantially changed.
8. Claims have sources
Google recommends clear sourcing and evidence of the expertise involved. Link or name the source for each claim a buyer would doubt.
9. Crawlers can reach the page
Read your robots.txt and your page rules for each crawler in the next section. Google also says not to block structured data pages with robots.txt or noindex.
10. The page is worth finding
Google says to create pages for people, with first-hand knowledge, and that no special writing style is needed for generative AI search.

Decide what each crawler may do.

Search crawlers and training crawlers are different bots. The publishers say each setting works on its own. Check each name in your robots.txt before you assume a rule applies.

OAI-SearchBot (OpenAI)
OpenAI says it “is used to surface websites in search results in ChatGPT’s search features” and recommends allowing it in robots.txt to appear there.
GPTBot (OpenAI)
OpenAI says it crawls pages that may be used to train its models. Blocking it does not stop search appearances through OAI-SearchBot.
PerplexityBot
Perplexity says it surfaces and links sites in Perplexity search results and is not used to crawl for AI foundation models. Perplexity recommends allowing it to appear.
Claude-SearchBot (Anthropic)
Anthropic says disabling it prevents indexing your pages for search optimization and may reduce visibility in Claude search results. ClaudeBot is a separate bot that collects web pages for model training.
Googlebot
Google lists Googlebot as a common crawler that always respects robots.txt rules for automatic crawls.
Bingbot
Check that your robots.txt does not block Bingbot. We could not fetch a current Microsoft page on its crawler rules for this guide, so read Bing Webmaster Tools for the details.

Know what a checklist cannot promise.

Google says indexing and serving are not guaranteed, and that you do not need llms.txt, special AI markup or new machine-readable files to appear in Google Search. Structured data is not required, though it helps with rich results. Each platform decides what it shows. For a free look at where AI mentions your business and what your pages are missing, request the AEO report. SalesChef Enrich fills the missing product facts, and SalesChef Sell makes the pages that answer buyers.

See a finished page that answers “Will it fit?”

Your questions, answered.

How do I check if my product page is AI-ready?

Open one page with scripts off and read what is left. Check the specs, brand, model and Global Trade Item Number, the buyer answers, the structured data and the robots.txt rules for each search crawler. The sections above give the full list.

What is GEO for product pages?

GEO means generative engine optimization. For a product page it means clear facts, answers to buyer questions and consistent product data. Google says the best practices for SEO continue to be relevant to its AI features.

Should I block AI crawlers?

It depends on the crawler and your goal. OpenAI says OAI-SearchBot decides whether a site appears in ChatGPT search, while GPTBot relates to model training. Each setting works on its own, so decide for each crawler.

Can SalesChef check my pages?

Yes. The free AI search report shows who gets mentioned, what your pages are missing and what to fix first. SalesChef Enrich fills the missing product facts, and SalesChef Sell makes the pages that answer buyers.
